hello,
I'm not quite in the same business as you guys but you might be able to help.
I currently use a dynachord powermate 1000 for our shows which are backing track and vocal based. I no longer need the desks power as we use powered speakers so i'm looking to get a new smaller mixer. it needs to have 2 mic channels and at least 3 stereo channels and inbuilt fx would be useful too for the vocal side of things.
obviously the dynachord is a quality piece of kit and I would be looking to get something which delivers equally good sound and mixing options.
An overall mix eq is also essential for what we do.
Occasionally we will do packages where we offer live singing and a DJ package, hence the need for all the stereo inputs for various sources.
any reccommendations would be greatly appreciated.
cheers

Well I use a Soundcraft Spirit ES which has 4 mic channels and 10 stereo inputs. Quality piece of kit and costs £300 or so. There are variations of this desk, and Soundcraft do loads or other desks - take a peek here

The Soundcraft desk I use has no FX on though, so have a look at these Yamaha desks here.

I can say also, that Yamaha do great products. I have used a certian desk by them(name escapes me) for live vocal work and had no problems at all. I think it is now discontinued as I can't find it anywhere on the web. It had stereo inputs, 8 or so mic channels, FX, phantom power, the works.

It may have been replaced by one of the desks in the link above.

Yeah the Dynacords are indeed nice as you know! I wouldnt go for a Behringer if you're after equivalent quality, they're nowhere near!!

I agree the Soundcraft is more the equivalent quality as suggested. They do indeed do models now with the FX built in.

cheers for the advice everyone.
I've decided to keep the dynacord for the time being but i've decided to get a yamaha MG82FX for the smaller background type gigs we do quite often, it's small and relatively feature packed and for 100 notes it's not a bank breaker. who knows, it may even be able to handle some of the larger stuff and save us from having to lug the dynacord around!!
thanks again folks

Before you do... check out the Mackie - DFX6 I have (I think) about £100 with effects, very nice - ideal for what you want... or add a little extra and go for the DFX12, bigger version of the same thing

Mmm Mackie desks are nice too.

cheers,
looked at the mackie 6 but left it alone as it only had a 2 band eq.
need the 3 band really for tweaking those vocals nicely.
(the 12 would have been going too big for what i needed but it looked a nice enough little mixer.)
got the yamaha and have to say i'm more than impressed with it. great sound and the FX are more than adequate too.
it's also nice and small which was the main thing, now my partner can fit everything she needs for her weekly 'in house' shows in one bag!!
great stuff.
