I know we touched briefly on this several times, and there was Gary's popular thread where we all added our thoughts for which track would follow the previous posters.

In order to help those just starting out, along with giving each other idea's, then why not post your own sample playlist in this thread?.

I think that it is a good idea, since everybody's music programming varies and maybe we can get idea's for tracks that we may never have played otherwise or even heard of!.

Of course, no two functions are alike but we all have our "set" floorfilla's and at least some idea of the tracks we will be playing before we even arrive at the gig.

I also thought, that it would be a good idea to compile a samle playlist, either for on my website or to email to that client who wants an idea of what I can play.

So please make the effort, who never know when a playlist sheet will come in handy!.

Chrispy
This is based on an actual clients playlist and i've just added my other popular tracks to it. There is no set way in which I play these, although I usually group all the era's together - i.e all 60's, all 70's, all disco, all soul, all motown etc etc

Again I wish Kazz was here, I'd be interested in her lists for different age range kids say one list for 4-7yrs and another for 7- 10 after that I realise its a bit of party and chart together but its by looking at other peoples ways of doing things we learn to improve our own shows.

I see this thread stagnated so posted to bring it back up again!

Go On Dan...just a shortened versions of "must plays"! you know you want to!
kazzachi
This is for kids - works for all the age groups I do - 6-11 and remember that with kids parties, you do a lot of chat and mucking about/games etc so I reckon in two hours you play very few tracks:

Follow the leader - Nigel Lewis version NOT the one that was
out last year
Ketchup song
Fast food song
Reach
cha cha slide (for the older kids)
music man
spirit in the sky
macarena
who let the dogs out (change "dogs" to different animal and
get kids to react ie., pigs = oink)
sometimes 5678
some of the most popular chart stuff if kids are bit older

In the main I generally do action songs as I am always out front showing the dance steps

Now for adults... thats a different matter altogether but just a few I tend to play at say for a wedding would be

Cant help myself
tears of a clown
this old heart of mine
aint to proud to beg
your love keeps lifting me higher

Never can say goodbye
love really hurts
right back where we started from
dancing queen (yawn)
Im in the mood
December 64
chain reaction (diana ross)

.... mostly I reckon we all play the say.... looking at everyones lists I think we are a collective juke box!!
The Spindoctor

Great thread! I try not to make play lists, i turn up look at the crowd and start with something suitable and just move on from there. I used to plan more but tended to get stuck in a rut 042.gif Anyway it works for me!
Ian Stewart
I must admit that I'm the same, I look at the crowd, play a tune, then pick another and play that and so on.

works for me
Paul Smith
I never used to have a playlist but then I'd be driving home from a gig and suddenly think 'I wish I'd have played such & such, it would have gone down well'. So rather than turn the car around & set up the gear again, I started to make a list of songs that work most of the time. More as an aide memoire than a set formulae.

If someone requests a song and it goes down well not only at that gig but the next few then I'll add that, again just as a reminder to me so that if I feel it'll work I can find it easily.

I started with a blank sheet and, when I look at other suggestions, I don't think it's coincidence that people all over the country seem to like similar music at wedding receptions apart from the odd local variations. 042.gif
