Hi, I have a lap top and want to move over to pcdj without buying any expensive equipment. Can someone tell me what other hardware i need to get started.
I have the rest, mixer, amp, cd players and speakers, i'm just not computer literate to put it all together on line. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks. wallbash.gif

EDIT:
Hi, further to my last message where I refer ro moving over to pcdj with my laptop i did not mean the software that has been refered to in other topics. I meant pc djing. I hope that clears it up.
Many thanks

You have all the neccessary equipment!

You will need software to play the mp3/Wave/Promp3/OGG files. You can use simple media player etc or dedicated DJ software OTSDJ, PCDJ, Tractor, Sam Party DJ, etc nearly all have demo programs to try out.

You will need a program to RIP (convert) your existing Cd or Vinyl collection. You will also need the licence to do this if you plan to play them in public (although this is open to discussion and additional licence changes are to be introduced/made)

You will then need to connect the laptop to your mixer by connecting the headphone output to one of the line in/Cd inputs of your mixer (NOT phono as it will distort as the signal will be to great). Cables are readily available to do this, (Maplins £2.99 and up) You may also need a 'Ground Loop Isolator' if you get a buzzing or Hum (about £15.00 from Halfords or Maplins).

You may need an external Hard Drive if your music collection is large £80 to £150

Search on the forum for any other questions you may have as this has been well covered in other threads.

I'd also suggest that you look at a good external sound card. The sound card/chip built into laptops are no doubt, quite good enough for the pair of 1inch 3watt speakers either side of the screen, but once you start playing out from the built-in sound chip, and amp'ing it out a few hundred watts into PA speakers, the built-in sound can sound a bit lacking.

Dont forget that, at the present time, in many circumstances, you'll also need PPL's Digital DJ License - a mere £230 per annum.

Some situations however mean that you might not need this (particular) license eg: if you only do private functions such as Weddings, and never do public functions such as Company dinner dances, Valentine day functions in public places etc.
