ok so this is the deal, i, like most of you have aproximately 7 trillion cd singles that i carry round to each gig with me, 1087.gif now at the very most there is only 2 versions i would ever play (most of them have nothing that i would play 188.gif ) but as you all know if i take that spice girl single out of my box good old murphy will come and request it. 1087.gif 1087.gif 1087.gif

now i started choosing the tracks and recording them onto cdrs on the computer (which by the way is kind of legal here)

anyways, to cut a long story short i want to record my cds onto the computer and have them saved as mp3s to save room at around 192kbs? whats the best program to use???? 533.gif

thanks in advance for the help. thumbup.gif

ps i think its really cool that people have taken time to reply to previous posts and i really appreciate your northrn hemisphere advice. wub.gif

depends on if ur willing to pay for the software or not

Ok .......

Firstly - audio editors for literally editing audio
Secondly - file converters from .wav to mp3, .wm files and visa versa
Thirdly - music copyright.

There are a number of utilities and editors that will 'rip' cd files to certain file types and size.
Some UK computer mags have free programs on the cd / cover but the internet can also be a source of public domain and shareware software.

Windows Media Player can 'rip' to its own format - hence getting the file converters would be handy.

For PC based software such as the PCDJ program - if unheard of , try and find a review on the net or see if others on here use it!!!!!! 042.gif
The copying of music is 100% illegal - backing-up your personal material is a very dark grey area.
As for personal use, it's looked on as 'ok' however, the copyright is breached if just one track copy is made.....let alone a disc!!!!!.
True, it will also come down to money for something half decent - not too much though!!!
The Spindoctor
for something straight forward and quick download CDex (and its free!!!!!)

Put Cd in drawer tell Cdex you want it in MP3 format and a few minutes later it is done to a directory you specify on your hard drive ............ insert next CD etc. (Also does whole albums if you are so inclined, and will convert to Wav instead if thats your bag)

Not wishing to overload you with options but another alternative is MusicMatch the free version will rip cd's to mp3 at a slower speed, but if you purchase Musicmatch plus (which I think is around US$40 for lifetime upgrades), you then get much more functionality. You get faster rips; can choose what bit rate you want to convert at; if you wish the program will automatically download track & artist info from Gracenote (formerly CDDB) which obviously saves a LOT of typing (this is also for the free version).
I also use a PC for gigs, and converted my music using Musicmatch. It took me months to rip around 50 Gb, but the upside is that once it's done and you then back it up, it never has to be done again.

If you don't want to pay then you can download many programs one which i find very easy to use.
L3enc Utilities ISO_Mpeg Layer 3
It uses MS dos while you are still in windows. u enter the track and the desired location of the track and then it takes about 2 minutes to convert. it also converts MP3 back to wav. Hope this helps 042.gif

I use musicmatch and its great! also you can get a mp3 upgrade for windows media player so you can rip to mp3 instead of windows own version this works well to!

I use dBpowerAMP which have a great 'cd graber' it connects to the internt for track listings and converts any CD to just about anything you can think of.

Its quick and easy too, which is nice biggrin.gif
