Full Version: What an Excuse
Dj's United > "TALKING SHOP" > D.J and Karaoke Chat

Professional Mobile Disco & Wedding Disco
High Fidelity
Just had a phone call from somebody for NYE, and I'm sure it won't be the last.

They said the DJ they had booked, had to cancel because his computer had broken.

As you can imagine, my first response to the caller was "so what's up with their backup equipment, or even using CD's".

Sounds to me like this was a cowboy using a hard disk full of "hookey" music.

After giving him a load of numbers that he could try 071.gif , I made a point of advising him that in future he should ask questions like "do you have backup equipment, do you have PLI etc", and to make sure you get a contract.

Have actually offered to help him out by sending my son out with the second backup setup (yes, I'm so paranoid, I have two sets of backup equipment), as the venue is only round the corner from where I'm working.

The number of times we get calls like this, makes you wonder if any of these people have ever been let down before and still not learnt their lesson.

Why is it when you're already booked for NYE the last minute calls come in but when you're not (like me this year) the phone remains quiet 533.gif

Still there's 24 hours to go and things might change - I'd rather be out than not.

This is the first year for a long time I haven't had last minute calls to do a NYE disco, but there is still time........

OK, I don't DJ any more and haven't for a few years as most probably know, but it was still nice to get the calls. rolleyes.gif

People really do consider us the lowest priority, don't they??!

I had five calls last week - interestingly...all from pubs! Read what you want into that.

The most any of them were looking to pay was £200 - I told them that was my normal charge, that I have never let anyone down to date and that I had been booked for NYE's since last January. I also got great pleasure in telling them I was getting paid an awful lot more than they were offering.

I'm sure I threw in the phrase "...pay peanuts, get monkeys" too!

Its very simple..

the venues who pay decent money have there dj turn up and work his/her socks off to make it a geat night...

the venues who don't pay only attract the dodgy DJ types and get let down.....

you now have a chance to call them back and offer them your services for realistic money nex NYE
