You'll definately need one licence,
or
another.
If your gigs are Public gigs, eg: Company Dinner Dances, Hotel/Restaurant/pub gigs, etc, then PPL's digital DJ licence would appear to be the best match for you, up to 20,000 tracks (1500~1800 CD's roughly)
If however your gigs are ALL private gigs eg: Family wedding, familiy birthday, family pre-wake (dont laugh, a terminally ill person has booked me for a party in January, just so he can see everyone before...), then the Digital DJ license wont cover you (as these are private, not public gigs), so, you'll need to look at the MCPS's offering, the SG6.
Certainly moving/copying shop-bought CD's from their current, provided state, onto another medium eg: Harddrive, will need one of the above two licences as suddenly there are 2 pieces of copyrighted material drifting around, where formerly, there was only 1.

PPL state that any DJ with a laptop device will require BOTH license's for private and non-private functions.

Yes, if you do both public and private - but the Digital DJ License does cover the movement of 20,000 tracks - just a shame its yearly though.
