Hi Guys,

Have a gig in early January for a girls 18th. About 100-120 coming. Id say 50% will be teenager, the rest made up of parents and grandparents. The parent has asked for a bit of Motown (the usual stuff to get one on the dancefloor).

Any tips about music that will float the boats for the 18 year old (and will be danceable of course as theres a lot of slow, depressing Sh&*e out there)

I've got the Nows and recent Top40 stuff so will appreciate your views/recommendations.

This is the easyest crowd for me as im around that age myself. i have done many discos with this age group

play recent music (like Dr. Dre, 50cent, Emminem that sort of stuff but i always find some other tracks like Eammon " censored2.gif ", Sean paul (pref older stuff) and beyonce, basement jaxxs and a bit of black eyed peas ("My Humps" for teens).
But never forget the classics like the grease mega mix, american pie and chesney hawks "i am the one and only"
mixs these in with believe it or not Cha Cha Slide, Dj Otzi (hey baby) and Danzel pump it up.

Hope This Has Helped... thumbup.gif

Im finding more at 18th's and 21st's that the young kids are into Rock / Indie.

New artists such as:

Kaiser Chiefs (Oh My God, I predict a riot)
Killers (Somebody Told me, Mr Brightside)
Kasabian (Cutt Off, LSF)
The Strokes (Last Night, Juicebox)
Futureheads (Hounds of Love)
Franz Ferdinand (Take Me out, Do you wanna)

At my most recent 18th I was asked only to play Indie - and no R&B. I just got by as my collection is lagely R&B.

It's likely that if the youngsters are into their indie and rock, they really hate R&B and Urban - so don't assume they'll like "Your Humps", "Dr Dre" etc biggrin.gif It would kick off if you played those tracks.

Cross-over artists such as The Prodigy, Dodgy, and Underworld could also feature, but the average 18 year old is more musically knowledgable these days, so they also appreciate The Clash, The Knack, Beatles and so on.

Come prepared with a collection to suite Indie Kids, the Urban lot, and Cheesey fans.

Hope that helps a bit.
