I'm putting mine up very slightly, although I will be holding the 2005 prices until the End of Jan 2006 for any booking confirmed before then.
£160 - £250 will be the 2006 price, depending on time and distance. Also remember to factor in the 2AM and 3AM finishes into your price structure, whilst very few private functions run until then currently, with the new licensing laws I expect we'll see a few more extended finishes creeping in, especially during the summer months.

Basic price for 2006 is £325 and includes up to 4 and a 1/2 hours performance (based on a maximum of 100 guests).
Extra time is £40 per 1/2 hour.
For bigger gigs I charge a further £50 per 100 guests. I also charge more for extras such as early set up, background music, PA Hire etc. etc. etc.

I am quoting £375 for up to 120 guests from 7:30pm to midnight. Extras for inside M25, South/North circlular, congestion zone, upstairs, marquee, etc... After all, this is what agents booking me are charging me out to their clients at.

At today's exchange rate my starting rate is £558, which I'll retain for 2006, but Ill start enforcing the 'overtime after 6 hours' rate of £40 per hour on top of that. Effectively that should make 30% or more of my events a minimum of £600.
I can live with that.

What are the licensing laws like in NZ? - do they have enforced hours where a function bar can serve drinks and such as thing as an entertainment licence which dicates the hours which a DJ can play?. Or is it like parts of Europe where the DJ can play all night if required?

I am quoting £300 for my smaller rig for 4 hours before midnight. £55 per extra hour before midnight £80 thereafter. For my larger rig it's £450, £85 and £125 respectively.

Liquour licensing laws are 24/7 depending on venue and a variety of other criteria, but that really only applies to bars and nightclubs. I seldom work later than 1am these days (by choice), but if I'm the MC and I'm either doing the ceremony music or cocktail music, then I might start working at 4pm and finish at 12am. In that situation I'm going to start charging my overtime rate.
