Just some advice please on track selection, obvously all the normal
party sets but in particular

i guess for a 30 year old music from the 90s will be popular, i didnt do the 90s!

so what are some great floor fillers from the 90s or any other suggestions for such a gig.

many thanks

I think 80s would be suited too. I'm 21 and the 90s was my era, so I think 80s would be very popular for people who are 30. But of course they didn't go deaf in the 90s; so 90s would also be good!

Recently I did a gig where the average age was probably about 30, and the following tracks I played got the best response (full floor):

(in no particular order)
Roxette - The Look
Technotronic - Pump up the Jam
Phil Collins - Easy Lover
John Hall - Maneater
Jacko - Billie Jean
Mud - Tiger Feet
Inner City - Big Fun/Good Life
Sweet Home Alabama

am 33 and like everything. Just do the normal 60`s 70`s & 80`s and a party set. It will be good 30th`s and 40th`s are my faavourite.

I did a 40th on Sat just gone and although I was ill with man cold (you know that real bad flu) it was a good night. It was easy because they danced to anything.

I'm 30 and my worst nightmare if I was to have had a party 014.gif would be having a dj who assumed what I liked and putting me in the 90's era yucky.gif or worse///80's pop!!!

My advice, ASK them what they like biggrin.gif
mick
Agree with Paula, I am ahem! in my 50's and well don't even go there as to what I like. You see there will be loads of different age groups there any way.
I would be well p----d off if I was assumed to only like stuff from my youth.
I did a golf club gig last week mostly over 50,s and all up for sugarbabes and Pussycat Dolls. Just see what they are into and give em a bit of everything - mick

if it was my party i wouldnt want any cheesy pop music and forget 60s and chart RnB

infact id leave if the DJ played that sort of stuff at my birthday party and id go clubbing...

you will have to ask what sort of things they are into....
Jearley
Thank you, for all your help, and of course i will ask and keep the birthday girl happy, but we all know that they are not the professionals and while keeping the birthday girl happy the rest of the crowd might go off the boil.

All this i would leave if...... is taking a strange view, parties have to cater for a wide range of people if i played club set material i think most of the people would go.

i do generally find 70s and 80s set popular with most, with the mustang sallys and respect in there, love shack etc. always win over.

But yes theres always the ones standing at the bar, with there nose in the air.

I wonder why do these guys go to parties at all. freaks.

anyway... anymore actual track choices please,,,,,,,,,, and thanks to those who contributed

thanks jason bigstar.gif

Not really true!
For all you know the birthday girl could be a follow of a certain type of music along with her mates, that all only go to clubs/pubs/whatevers/ where there type is played.
The music they like might be of and older era that there into maybe adopted off there older siblings or even there parents! which would keep your crowd on the boil!

So really really is to ask!

For me personally I'd rather hug a lamp post all night that listen to 80's & 90's pop!

I'm with Paula and Marky Marc on this one. It depends on the crowd of course, but it's not uncommon to find that a large number of people in the same crowd like the same sort of music, which might not be the mainstream music of the time.

Even if you're thinking of a specific time like the 80's or 90's, the people could be into something specialised from that time, like Heavy Metal or Lovers Rock or Rap or they might be into specialist music like Northern Soul.

I always ask what sort of music the organiser's friends are into, just to make sure I'm in the right ball park. Personally, I've got a lot of friends in the 30-40 age range and the music that does it for them is a mix of R&B, Soul, Hip-Hop and classic Reggae. Just imagine if you went along with your 80's / 90's pop music and found that none of it worked on that crowd - what would you do?

I think it's much safer just to ask - not with the idea of them giving you an actual list of things to play, but just to make sure there's not something that's going to catch you out big time.
