Apparently the 10 biggest selling singles of the decade were:
1. Will Young - "Evergreen" 2. Gareth Gates - "Unchained Melody" 3. Shaggy - "It Wasn't Me" 4. Tony Christie/Peter Kay - "Is This The Way To Amarillo?" 5. Band Aid 20 - "Do They Know It's Christmas?" 6. Hear’Say - "Pure And Simple" 7. Shayne Ward - "That's My Goal" 8. Kylie Minogue - "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" 9. Bob The Builder - "Can We Fix It" 10. Atomic Kitten - "Whole Again" Out of which the only one I'd play for pleasure is Whole Again (long story, oh the memories!!!) and the only one I'd play when working is Amarillo, but it's been played to death. Here's the top 20 songs of the noughties according to the survey for the Channel 4 programme. I've added some comments: 20. Leave Right Now - Will Young Good song, not great for working though. 19. Ruby - Kaiser Chiefs Boring, boring, boring, boring!!! 18. Valerie - Mark Ronson feat. Amy Winehouse Good for getting the middle-aged dirty divorcees dancing, but the Zutons version is far superior 17. Viva La Vida - Coldplay Absolute rubbish 16. Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand With a rifle, I'd be tempted to take them out. Matinee was alright though. 15. Mercy - Duffy Another one for the dirty divorcees. Over-played, over-rated, but might get requested. 14. Patience - Take That The worst song they've released since they came back. Stick Shine on. Or the older stuff! 13. Stan - Eminem Was that this decade? Feels like forever ago. Good tune, but not for working. 12. I Don't Feel Like Dancing - Scissor Sisters Probably the song from this decade with the best chance of standing the test of time. 11. Hey Ya! - Outkast Fantastic song from a criminally under-rated duo 10. You're Beautiful - James Blunt Noise pollution 9. Can't Get You Out Of My Head - Kylie Minogue Supposed floorfiller that always seems to have the opposite effect for me, I never rated Kylie, I rarely play her stuff and virtually never get any requests. Sorry to explode the myth. 8. Crazy In Love - Beyonce The only good thing Mrs Carter has ever done. 7. Rule The World - Take That Does nothing for me. 6. Crazy - Gnarls Barkley Hard to argue with. 5. Rehab - Amy Winehouse Dreadful song, terrible artist. 4. Sex On Fire - Kings Of Leon Half decent filler material, shouldn't be on this list though. 3. I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor - Arctic Monkeys Half decent filler material, shouldn't be on this list though. 2. Mr. Brightside - The Killers Poor song by a shockingly over-rated band. 1. Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol This makes me physically ill. The song is terrible, I despise the band. Not enough genuine floor fillers from 2000- 2009 to play through new years eve. I doubt whether I will no more than 5 or 6 tunes from this era tonight. |

That list of #1s makes for grim reading Dave! Other than Fascination - Alphabeat, I'm struggling to think of a good tune from this decade. Right, I'll take your advice and check the NOW albums. Obviously they will be missing a few good tracks but, based on the NOW albums alone, I shall prepare my comprehensive list. Watch this space.
