Very interesting leading on from another couple of threads recently... There seems to be a lot of what some of the guys on here would call cheese and also a Distinct lack of music of 150 BPM and over.....

Goes to show that the area and market you are in they still want the old standards.... Even though the 90's club generation is now in the market for getting married etc.....

if i'd copied the entire list there would have been more soul & dance stuff, out od the whole number of lists received (160) the no 1 requested tune was requested 26 times, which also proves the diversity of songs requested

I wouldn't call it all cheese, but the bookings were loaded for family(ish) get togethers rather than out and out dance fests. 12 birthday parties...of which not all would have been teenage do's (I would guess)

Cheers!

Excepted but your top 100 most popular request were mainly of the cheese variety lol... Not knocking it the tunes on your list are fantastic... Infact its No 11 that sees the first real newish Track Pussycat dolls - Don't cha and Byonce's Crazy in love... and its one of the equal 39th songs Faithless - Insomnia before we see any hint of modern dance music with a BPM of 126 (thats a whole 24 BPMs below one of our forum DJs sugested minimum for a modern wedding).... also at 39 Outkast - Hey Ya but that is already bordering on cheese with its repetative whiste synth sound FX.... Bar Faithless I would say the first real big Club hit of recentish times in the list is Daft Punk - One More Time at 79.... Like I say just interesting how some guys on here proffer the doom of the cheese playing DJ then your post shows this to be totaly untrue... More power to your arm sir...

I think any DJ is doomed if they are not flexible and able to change. This probably applies more to those on the leading edge of music technology than those that supply a cheese fest. But as long as we are able to the supply what the customer wants on the night then surely thats the most important thing, isnt it?

Strangely enough, I was letting my software run through my catalogue and BPMing it. Even the newest 'hard dance' was only coming out at around 130....

Cheers!

This is very interesting and shows that certain tracks seem to be popular all over the country and are asked for at nearly every gig. ie - Brown eyed girl (I get asked for this almost every week).

What a good idea Ian, I hand out request slips but never keep them and analyse the frequency of popularity as you have done, there you go another new year resolution to keep - mick

some classics on the list, who cares whether its cheese or not as long as it makes the clients and there guests happy it gets my vote, also that list would be very useful for new djs starting as there are often threads as to what to play and thats pretty much universal classics for most parties.

I don't keep a list of requests or number of plays, but if I had done so, the list would have looked like that one. All those tracks are popular for weddings.

A good list. Any new members to this forum getting involved in general function work this year, would be wise to make sure they have those tracks as a starting point.
