Just found out this evening from the agency that im booked to do a gay wedding at the Hawkwell House Hotel in iffley (our residency) which is the first time for them aswell as me.. I know some people have done gay weddings already such as Brianmole, would you care to share your experiences etc.... im just looking for advice really on how to approch the whole evening. ive been told that there giving me the laptop full of trance, dance, garage etc... so music wise im possibly sorted, but tell me if theres any other classics that go down well aswell i.e 70s/80s top 40 etc...

Cheers

Kane

I have done a couple and to be honest they were no different to any other wedding. Just check with them beforehand what they are doing about the usual formalities, i.e. first dance etc.

The oldest swinger in town....... probably. Happy Easter.. well I have seen easter eggs in the shops

Hi Kane,

I have only done 2 so far, and they were both just like weddings, possibly with a little more colour and emotion (in other words, a really good celebration party).

As the civil partnership has no precedent, run it how the happy couple want to, make sure you ask them how when you have your pre-function meeting with them - you do do those don't you?

Other than that, make sure you are stocked up with plenty of Diva material like Kylie, Madonna, Donna Summer, and a few gay anthems to boot. If there are no kids, there is a wicked CD available from Four Pouffs and a Piano which has some risque but corking tracks on it - I must get a copy of that.

Best of all, enjoy the evening, set aside any preconceptions, be yourself.

Cheers,

Brian http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif

Don't want to appear picky but a wedding takes place between a woman and a man.

Same sex unions are Civil Partnerships.

None of my gay friends or acquaintances would want to be thought of as apeing heterosexuals so this is an important point.

Not necessarily, the terms 'Gay Wedding' are often used in the Civil Partnership industry, and accepted by most couples. Check this out.

I really don't see why the term "wedding" should be used - because that's not what a civil partnership is - and I still consider it a contradiction in terms.

However I'll advise my gay friends to consider changing their terminology!!

It is essential that you have lots of Cher, Elton John, George Michael, Boy George, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and of course The Village People. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/071.gif

On a more serious point I wouldn't have thought it would be too different from many bookings except they've all come out of the closet.

Thanks for the advice all,

to add what you all said about music, Dave has just phoned and said that they dont want any cheese, so to keep in theme of their trance and dance requests, im just seaching around the net for trance/dancy remixes of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, george michael etc....

To add what you said Bri

im going to try and get their number so i can speak to them directly instead of being passed on messages from the agency loads of times

I did my first a couple of months ago. No different from a traditional wedding reception, cutting the cake, first dance, parents up dancing with them, etc. Just check and see how they want to be addressed, Bob and Jim, Mr & Mr Smith, etc. Apart from that, just play what they crowd want and have a great time.

when they say trance and dance I think you might find they mean tall paul / tony di vit / jon of the pleased wimin And all other Trade classics not the trance you get on the high street....

make sure you get a few requests and try not to patronise them with all out gay cheese like wham and paris to berlin....

If you need to borrow a few tunes let me know..

I've done a few civil partnerships &none of them wanted it to be refered to as a wedding.

I did nothing any different to what I would at any wedding (apart from refer to bride & groom) other than one didn't have a first dance.

Hence the http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/071.gif and the fact that they had already supplied an idea of the music they wanted.

Satire obviously lost in this instance.

However it is amazing how many people seriously see it in that way. (ie. all gays like Village People, Judy Garland etc....)
