I have seen them in action and was quite impressed. just like having 2 scanners, obviously close together tho.

cannot comment on the gobos/sound to light as I havent seen the others, but I would buy them if I was in the market for new ones.

The oldest swinger in town....... probably. Happy Easter.. well I have seen easter eggs in the shops

I've just had these demonstrated to me in a showroom.

My initial impressions were very good. The unit itself is not heavy - only around 6kg. It has got a very solid build, and a carry handle on the top. Plus a mounting bracket for attaching to your T-Bar or Goal Post.

The bulb (or bulbs) are 100w - however they have got the optics spot on, so its more like good 200 or 250w scanner. They are dmx-able, can work in sound-2-light mode and are linkable.

I was shown them in sound-2-light mode and they did look good with the unit's inbuilt program doing its thing. Not too crazy and random like some sound-2-light programs are. It was very measured, no strobing etc. There is a mini handheld controller that you get free if you buy 2 of these units. This controls such things as blackout, speed etc.

I would recommend getting 2 of these and linking them rather than having 1 on its own.

It looked to me like it had a gobo wheel with set colours. It had open white, some star-shapes and other bits and bobs. The mirror stepper motor was average - not the same quality as a high-end Martin MX scanner with ultra-smooth movements, probably more like a soundlab scanner, but still good all the same.

The offer I saw was 2 units plus handhald controller for £349.00 For that price I would say definately buy.

Hope that helps a little.

I think the added benefit is that one of these dual-head units is lighter (in terms of weight) than two single head units, and obviously more compact, so if size and weight is an issue then go for these.

nice one jon, i think youve just talked me into it. at least i wont have to get rid of two of my gladiator barrels as they will all fit on my T bar.

any idea if two of these would fit into one flightcase?

just found this in pro mobile

might be interesting if anyone else is thinking of getting these.

ACME Dynatwin Party Scan

The ACME Dynamo Party Scan (reviewed in Pro Mobile issue 10) was definitely one of the most popular budget lighting effects of 2005. This is hardly surprising when a set of four bright, lightweight and feature packed scanners retail for less than £400.00. However the people at ACME have spent very little time basking in this success and instead have listened to their users and devised a new lighting product using the winning formula developed for the Dynascan; the beginning of 2006 sees the arrival of the Dynatwin Party Scan.

Essentially the Dynatwin is two Dynascan's joined together, this is ideal for the mobile DJ looking to minimise on setup time and cables. One power cable and one set of control cables operate two separate scanners, each with independent colour/gobo wheels and light sources. The case looks very similar to that of the Dynascan and shares the same tough metal construction. Visitors to last year's PLASA show may have caught a glimpse of a prototype model that was on display on the stand of ACME's UK distributor Pro Light Concepts.

Ten combined colour and gobo patterns, including some with split colours are combined with fast moving mirrors to produce a range of stunning effects. Each scanner is provided with a manual lens for focusing the beams in order to produce sharp projected images.

Lamp access requires a single screw to be removed allowing the front panel to slide out, which gives plenty of space to change either of the 100 watt lamps. Although each light source is only 100 watts, the optics mean that the output is deceivingly bright and because of the focused nature of the scanner effect, the Dynatwin is capable of holding its own when used together with moonflower or barrel effects with more powerful lamps.

No the controller wont. Thats why I am selling my Controller on ebay. It only works on the "CE Range" of abstract's lighting.

sorry but no video as the night was total pants so didnt even get the camera out.

the dynatwins were excellent lights for the money with a great built in sound to light show. they were very bright compaired to my abstract gladiators.

i found them slightly top heavy so they kept tilting forward on the T bar a bit even with the locking wheels tightened as tight as i could get them.

ill deafanately do a video at my next gig in a couple of weeks.

all in all id recomend them. i paid £318 for the pair with a ca8 controller and if your short on space having two lights in one box is an advantage.

good video.... question about how they work....

it looks like the scanners spend alot of time following each other (ie the pair of mirrors moving in sync together)

is this right, or just misleading from the video.... ?

They look good! The optics are very clear on them. The Gobos look very clear when projected.

The video clip was good. What program did you use to make it ?

Cheers

Jools

its a bit misleading in the video.

i was only using the computer speakers for the test and to save getting a ear bashing from downstairs it wasnt that loud.

the mirrors do seem to stay in sink on the video a lot but on friday they did give a better display while in a larger room. this is using the built in display tho. if your into dmx then you can program them as you like.

ill try and do another clip when theres no one in to moan http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/whistling.gif

the video doesnt give the clarity of the optics justice. i couldnt fault them one bit.

i use pinnacle studio 6.

its not the best but its not bad.

for transfering a video from my dv camera to dvd it takes for ever to render. a 1 hour video takes roughly 4-5 hours.

it took 8 minutes to render this 1min 40seconds clip.
