Not sure about Jestofunk....can I substitute that one for a famous Norwegian band?! :D

Looked up Jestofunk on Amazon - Love in a Black Dimension album not available apparently!

One review said about this album:

I was turned on to this by accident, and it is really good! Soul, Funk-jazz, really groovin' in a variety of styles that doesn't get old. Not a touch of smooth jazz here. Highly recommended! Sounds like Jaco Pastorius meets Curtis Mayfield

The track 'Can't We Live' is available here

Mr Mole !!!! Dont know Jestofunk ? Think you would appreciate this track often used by Faithless in their dj sets .Dont know Brickhouse? you should be ashamed. Jestofunk are not norwegian either. Want to play something Norwegian then it must be Røyksopp - Eple

I will try anything,once!

Sorry to digress, can you elaborate? Do you send past clients an anniversary card or something?

Yeah, Any customers who book for birthdays they get a card off us every year, And with all bookings we then follow them up a year after asking if there having a party again, and if so i always always get the booking. They like it, Ive always done it since i started. Infact ive got a birthday in march ive been doing for the last 8 years. All i say is ill give ya 10% off this years prices. Normally works about £20 cheaper but they like the way i contact them, Sometimes they might so no but then pass my details onto to someone else.

Always worked for me anyway

Good enough elaboration?

Sounds a good idea, but out of interest if you didnt have a good night with a certain birthday client or you was getting bad vibes from the gig do you still send them a card every year and do they send them back to you??? :hurt:

How do you know if they liked you that much to re-book you again. tongue out icon

If i get bad vibes id still send one, Most of the time its drink fuelled arguements with other guests. and we just carry on regardless.

If they didnt like us they wont rebook but with showing a little interest in weens out the fred and a cd player.

Try it and i gurantee a good outcome. think about it, Whos got a new car? who goes dentist? mot? all these people offers services, and send you letters. When you open them " oh the car needs servicing or oh i need my dentist check up, ill give uhm a call"

Hi all,

Well, that's the weekend over for me and it just gets better and better all the time. It's been hard work but I have to say that Saturday (last night) was amazing.

Anyway, Friday - I did a retro night in the place that I hire out. The numbers weren't brilliant but the atmosphere was electric and I had so comments from people about the night and how good it was via my website and MySpace that I can't wait for the next one at the end of March, it is definitely a night that will build into a regular.

So, on to last night and as I mentioned, I had my first visit to Oakley Hall. Nice venue, big marquee, friendly staff and it was a pleasure to be there in all honesty. There were 160 guests all up for a great night and I worked from 7.30pm - 01.00am. The marquee was a bit hot but luckily I always take a fan with me which clips on to my goal posts. Everyone was up for it from the word go and it seemed like almost every tune I played, they danced to it. Didn't play that much 'cheese' to be honest. I played to the kids at the start of the evening, they were doing their dance routines etc..Then I picked tunes from the bride and groom's playlist which were mainly laid back chilled slowies that went down well because people could chat etc. After the speeches (which were hilarious) I played their first dances - Fleetwood Mac 'Songbird', Stevie Wonder 'I Believe' and Michael Jackson 'I just can't stop loving you' to a packed dancefloor. As soon as the last track finished I went into Stealers Wheel 'Stuck in the Middle with you' which had been requested earlier and everyone went mad for it. I then followed with Mika, Scissor Sisters, Abba etc and the dancefloor was rammed.

There were more speeches, this time even funnier and then the cutting of the cake and then it was full on into some Indie - The View, The Kooks, Snow Patrol, The Automatic, Pulp, Blur etc and then some old skool dance stuff Jocelyn Brown, Fatback Band, Patrice Rushen, Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan etc..before hitting the home straight with some 60's classics and Motown and then I finished off with S Club 7 (as requested) and The Monkees - The Theme from The Monkees. I could've played all night to be honest as they were all up for it and it was pretty embarassing standing there with everyone clapping and cheering me.

I got 2 bookings on the night and also gave out another 3 cards to people who asked for them. I also had a call from the groom this morning to say that he thought it was amazing. He said that a couple of his friends who had come down from the midlands had commented that it was the best wedding that they'd ever been to and everything was perfect.

Sorry, not blowing my own trumpet (wish I could!), but if I ever needed a confidence booster, well, last night was the perfect one. So...it's on to the rest of the week now. Hope you all had as good a time as I did.

80th. Birthday Party last night.

A little disorganized, I set up in the morning as I know the caretaker there.

Turned up at 6pm just to make sure all was well it was no hicks.

The people started turning up at about 7ish to set the place up guests stared turning up at about 8.

But the people who organised it where not there and I was asked just to play background music, the big band stuff till the speeches which was after the buffet.

The dancing was supposed to start about 9 ish ( no chance)

Asked people to help themselves to the buffet at about 8-45 no one moves till about 9-20 was asked if they could do the speeches at 9-45 yes I said that's fine, took about 30 mins.

Just about to go for it and the birthday girl bless her decided to get and make her way over the stage waving at me so I had to stop it.

Gave her the mic so she could thank very one herself.

Got the dancing going it's now 10-30 30 mins left to dance told them this, then they all came up on the dance floor.

Now it's 10.55 played the last tune as the P.A. has to be off at 11pm cause at 11.05 the stage power goes off and all shut down. Thats how strict it is.

But anyway the guests all enjoyed themselves, took cards etc.

I felt that we did not do enough but when you only have 3 hours to play with and don't organise it properly then we cant fully get going into the flow.

Have to say there was a lot of good remarks about the lighting as well.

The Amce Panthers look very good and the building has all glass at the end of the building, the white light was beaming across the road onto the house wall quite nicely so i would not have any problems on filling a large marquee with them.

Update from my weekend with the house party

Turned out to be a wkd night,

Set up at half 6 for 8 start. Everythings fine guy pays money up front. Then his guests turn up, The party was for Chinese newyear so you can imagine ....

They fed us (excellent chinese) watered us and paid us.

And gave us £60 tip...

All good really, And i got through loads of cards after handing them out and took 2 bookings for birthdays. So all good really.

Suprisingly a chinese lady asked for Nelly the elephant by the toy dolls???? I had it so that went on and they loved it.

Cheers for all the advice in the previous posts chaps.

It really helped.

Only 1 dilemma was my cd players (cdn22 mk4's) For some strange reason when pressing the open button it didnt work!) But saying that after about 2 hours i tried again and it was fine, Ive emailed the dealer i got them from and also numark, has anyone had troubles like this before with the MK4's????

We had a Karaoke gig at the pelham arms last night. It wasnt too busy, not like the last one. I don't think the landlord advertises very well. But, we are going to issue him with re-usable posters for the other gigs. Still, a friend of mine who came only got to sing 3 songs, so it was busy enough.

We started off with a couple of songs to tune the equipment in, I sang Elvis Presley - Don't Be Cruel.

Had a few singers in the first hour before things really got swinging. I thought we had the sound set up pretty good, but late in the evening one 'older' geezer sang his song and suggested that the base was up too high. The KJ adjusted it slightly to his taste, but IO was unsure he was right as I thought it sounded really good.

Heres a question...

Can your age affect how you here sounds?

E.g. Is it possible that what I find to sound good, some one older may think to be too bass-ey? 1 example, i love modern stuff like Bob sinclair, but others might detest the amount of bass involved... and likewise when they hear another song.

Or, aside from age, is it possible that different people will hear sounds differently?

Or maybe its just that I'm a beginner and am not quite tuned in myself yet?

Anyway, all in all our gig went rather well last night.
